The Experience with Patient Safety Activities of Nursing Students

Abstract

|
Purpose: Patient safety must be important from the nursing college curriculum. However, previous studies do not provide information about what nursing students are thinking about and conducting patient safety activities in the clinical practicum.
Methods: Data were collected by in-depth interviews with thirteen nursing students and analyzed using the hermeneutic phenomenology of van Manen.
Results: The Four thematic statements identified in this study were as follows; ‘Trying to keep the basics in textbook’, ‘Overcoming fear and lack of confidence’, ‘Filling minor gaps for patient safety’, ‘Committing to patient safety as a future nurse’.
Conclusion: The results of this study can be used as the basic data for future study of safety education programs for nursing students and new nurses.
